Have you ever experienced a situation where your colostomy bag suddenly swells up while you're out and about? Or perhaps you're in the middle of a conversation, and you notice a faint but uncomfortable odor in the air? Worse yet, maybe your colostomy bag has burst while traveling, leaving you embarrassed and at a loss for what to do. For many ostomy patients, issues like ballooning and odor can affect their confidence, social interactions, and self-esteem.
However, managing ballooning and odor in your Colostomy Bag doesn’t have to be difficult. Here are four key ways to help prevent these issues and give you peace of mind:
1. Adjust Your Diet to Reduce Gas Production
Certain foods can cause gas to build up in your digestive system, which can lead to a swollen ostomy bag. Common culprits include beans, onions, carbonated drinks, beer, eggs, and more. To minimize bag swelling, it's best to limit or avoid these foods. Sticking to a regular meal schedule and chewing your food thoroughly can also help reduce gas. Opt for a diet rich in vitamins and fresh vegetables while cutting back on foods that cause strong odors, such as asparagus and spicy seasonings.
2. Choose Colostomy Bags with Exhaust and Deodorising Holes
Selecting the right colostomy bag is crucial. Heagi’s Colostomy bags, designed with Exhaust and Deodorising Holes, are the best solution for managing ballooning and odors. These bags offer an array of benefits in everyday situations:
-
Exhaust Hole Functionality: When gas builds up in the ostomy bag, simply open the exhaust hole to release it quickly and prevent the bag from ballooning. This feature is especially useful when you're out in public or at social events, allowing you to wear fitted clothes with confidence.
-
Deodorising Hole Design: The deodorising hole allows you to insert the an aromatherapy tablets, effectively tackling any potential odors. This ensures that no matter how long you wear the bag, odors won’t become an issue, leaving you feeling confident in any social setting.
-
Nighttime Solution: If you frequently wake up at night due to bag ballooning, the exhaust hole feature can provide relief, letting you sleep through the night without interruptions.
3. Increase the Frequency of Colostomy Bag Changes
One of the simplest ways to avoid odor and bacterial buildup is to change your colostomy bag more frequently. We recommend daily changes, especially when you're traveling or attending important events. Heagi’s two-piece Colostomy bags are designed for easy and quick changes, helping you stay fresh and confident throughout the day.
4. Use Deodorising Agents
If you've already adjusted your diet and switched to the right colostomy bag but are still experiencing odor, it may be time to consider deodorising agents. These products come in sprays, drops, and tablets, and can be very effective at neutralizing odors. We suggest trying different types to find the best one for your needs.
By monitoring your food and drink intake, choosing the right ostomy bag, and using proper care products, you can successfully manage swelling and odor.

You need to include more barriers in your kits. 16 bags an 6 barriers are not an adequate ratio. I would suggest 2 to 1 ratio of bags to barriers. Otherwise your product works fine. In addition, it would be nice if the barriers you sell on Amazon were to ship from Amazon instead of from China. Shipping time is too long (2weeks or more).
Thanks

I use your 2 piece bags x003fj1ahv. Great bags but just wish there was more of the pieces that go to the skin included
